February is Responsible Pet Owners Month – a time to celebrate the pet guardian who provides responsible pet care, a time to educate the public and to ensure the well being of your pet throughout his life.
There are many ways to be responsible and to show your pet you love them:
- Vaccines – to help keep them healthy
- Spay/Neuter – to help prevent unwanted liters
- Nutrition – to help keep them healthy
- Clean up after them – a dog can pick up worms, parasites or diseases from another dog’s poop
- Grooming helps keep their skin healthy
- Dental Hygiene
- Exercise – both physical and mental – will keep them happy and active, and helps them from becoming bored! Give them a job to do
- Vet Care – regular check ups from puppyhood to end of life
- Chip them – in the unfortunate event they “run away”, their safe return will be that much easier!!
- Include your pets in your family’s Emergency Planning
- Make arrangements AHEAD of time for your pets’ care should the time come you are unable to
One of my favorite ways to be responsible pet owner is to choose a pet that matches your lifestyle! If you enjoy curling up on the couch after a long day at work, a pet that is relaxed and chill would match your style!!
